Humble Servant

This drawing was kind of done as a companion piece to my drawing of Pope John Paul II. These two great men who grew up in, and were shaped by, the dark days of WWII–on opposite sides, yet united by a common faith–were ultimately chosen to lead Christ’s Church. Though Benedict’s personality is quite the opposite of John Paul’s, they both share a deep spirituality and faith which has been tried in the fire of the times in which they grew up. I took the title for this piece from Pope  Benedict’s words as he greeted us as Pope for the first time… “Dear brothers and sisters, after the great Pope, John Paul II, the cardinals have elected me, a simple and humble worker in the Lord’s vineyard.”
