Handmaid of the Lord
This drawing was inspired by a photograph my wife took of our daughter as she was dancing around the room with a lace veil on her head. The look on her face and in her eyes, as well as the position of her hand, struck me as an extraordinary representation of Our Lady as she heard the words of the Archangel Gabriel and contemplated their meaning. Her face is innocent and pure, while her eyes have a mature sadness to them as she sees the future ahead of her. She places her hand over her breast in humble submission, and also over her heart as she feels the pain she will endure.
